Website design cost in Kolkata (2026): what each price buys

From ₹4,000 to ₹1,00,000 for "the same" five pages. What each price band in Kolkata actually buys, what it costs from year two, and how to compare quotes.

You asked three people for a website. One said ₹4,000. One said ₹15,000. One said ₹60,000. All three said "five pages, mobile-friendly, SEO included".

Nobody in that list is necessarily lying. They are quoting three different products and using the same words for all of them. This post takes the published Kolkata price lists, lines them up, and shows what is actually inside each band — and the bill that arrives in year two, which none of the three quotes mentioned.

1. What the published price lists say

Most agencies in Kolkata do not publish prices. A few do, and a few more publish "cost guides". Here is what they say for a basic small-business site, checked on 3 October 2026:

Source Basic site What they call it
webdesignerkolkata.in ₹5,200 5 pages, with domain, hosting, SSL and email for the first year
Expro Lab cost guide ₹8,000 – ₹25,000 5–7 pages
Qubinity cost guide (Kolkata column) ₹8,000 – ₹18,000 5–7 pages
Codingclave cost guide ₹25,000 – ₹1,00,000 5–10 page business site

25×

Two things to keep in mind before you trust any row. Every one of these is written by somebody selling websites, so read them as asking prices, not as a survey. And the dates matter — the Expro and Qubinity guides are from 2026, which is why they are worth more than a 2022 article that still ranks.

What the table does tell you is where the middle is. For five to seven pages, most published Kolkata figures sit between about ₹8,000 and ₹25,000. Below that, something has been left out. Above it, something has been added. The rest of this post is about what.

2. The ladder: what each price actually buys

Under ₹5,000 — a template with your name on it

Three to five pages, picked from a template library, your logo and colours dropped in, first-year domain and hosting bundled. Delivered in two or three days. It is a real product and for some shops it is the right one. I wrote a whole post on it: website design under ₹3,000 in Kolkata — what you actually get.

What is missing at this price is time. Nobody can spend a day on your site for ₹3,000, so nobody does.

₹5,000 – ₹15,000 — a template, set up properly

Still usually a template, but this is where it gets adjusted to your business rather than the other way round: your real photographs, your actual services, a phone number that is tappable on mobile, a contact form that reaches a real inbox, page titles written for the searches your customers make.

This band varies more than any other. Two ₹12,000 quotes can be a careful job and a rushed one, and the price will not tell you which. The questions in section 4 will.

₹15,000 – ₹60,000 — custom design and more pages

Ten to fifteen pages, a design made for you rather than chosen from a library, someone writing or rewriting the words, and usually a system so you can edit the text yourself. This is the Expro guide's "professional" band (₹25,000 – ₹60,000) and Qubinity's (₹25,000 – ₹55,000).

Worth it if you have that many things to say — a clinic with eight specialities, a coaching centre with six courses, a manufacturer with a catalogue. Not worth it for a sweet shop that needs to say where it is and what time it opens.

₹25,000 and up — an online store

Payments, a product catalogue, stock, delivery settings. Kolkata guides put this anywhere from ₹25,000 – ₹50,000 for ten to fifty products (Webtechnomind) to ₹40,000 – ₹1,50,000 (Expro) and ₹50,000 – ₹2,00,000+ (Qubinity). The product count is what moves the price — every product needs photographs, a description and a price entered by somebody.

The do-it-yourself route — rent the software

Store builders charge monthly instead of once. Shopify's Basic plan is ₹1,994 a month billed monthly, or ₹1,499 a month billed yearly — about ₹18,000 a year — with GST charged on top for Indian stores. Dukaan's Starter plan is listed at ₹299 a month or ₹2,500 a year.

That can be a perfectly good choice. Just do the three-year arithmetic before you choose it, the same way you would for a retainer: you are renting, and the rent does not stop.

3. The price that is not on any quote: year two

Every quote above is the price of building the site. Keeping it online is a separate bill, and it renews every year whoever built it.

At renewal, on the vendors' own pages, checked 3 October 2026:

  • A .in domain renews at ₹899 a year at both Hostinger and GoDaddy. A .com is ₹1,499 (Hostinger) or ₹1,599 (GoDaddy).
  • Basic shared hosting renews at ₹289 a month on Hostinger's cheapest plan, and ₹449 on the next one up. The low monthly prices you see advertised need you to pay three to four years upfront.
  • Plus 18% GST on both. Hostinger states its prices without GST.
₹5,153
the cheapest realistic yearly bill to keep a small site online — a .in domain and Hostinger's cheapest hosting at renewal, plus 18% GSTHostinger India renewal prices, checked 3 October 2026

So a site that cost ₹4,000 to build and a site that cost ₹25,000 cost roughly the same to keep online: somewhere from about ₹5,000 to ₹7,500 a year, more if a maintenance contract is added. I have broken that bill down line by line in what website maintenance actually costs a small business in India.

The one question that matters more than the build price: whose name is the domain registered in? If it is the developer's, you are not buying a website. You are renting one from them.

4. How to compare three quotes

Send each of them the same five questions on WhatsApp, and put the answers side by side:

  1. Is it a template or a custom design? If a template, which one? There is nothing wrong with a template. You just want to know what you are paying for.
  2. Who writes the words? If the answer is you, budget a weekend. If it is them, ask to see something they wrote for another client.
  3. What does year two cost, in rupees — domain, hosting, and any maintenance fee?
  4. Whose name goes on the domain, and do I get the logins on the day it goes live?
  5. What does a small change cost after handover — a new price, a new photograph, new opening hours?

The cheapest quote with good answers to all five is usually the right one. A quote that dodges 3 or 4 is expensive at any price.

5. Where we sit, plainly

Our website build is published at ₹14,999 on the website design page — inside the ordinary Kolkata band, in the lower half of it. For the first five clients it is ₹8,499, one-off, while the launch price lasts. The page shows how many of the five are left.

What that buys: up to five pages, built mobile-first for a mid-range phone on mobile data; the domain and hosting registered in your name on day one, with the logins handed to you; a WhatsApp button and a form that reaches your inbox; titles, descriptions, sitemap and structured data; a proper preview card when the link is forwarded; live in seven working days from when I have your content. No monthly fee to me.

It is not a fifteen-page custom design and I will not pretend it is. If you need that, you are in the ₹25,000 – ₹60,000 band, and you should get three quotes there and use the questions above.

What to do this week

  1. Write down what the site has to do: be found, take enquiries, or take orders. That decides the band before anyone quotes.
  2. Get three quotes in the same band, not one from each.
  3. Send all three the five questions in section 4.
  4. Ask each for the year-two figure in rupees. Add it to the build price, three times over.
  5. Pick on the answers, then on the price.

The things people actually ask

Why is the same website ₹5,000 from one person and ₹50,000 from another?

Because it is not the same website. The difference is almost always time: custom design instead of a template, written words instead of yours pasted in, more pages, a system to edit it yourself. Ask what the extra money buys in hours, and you will usually get a clear answer.

Are these prices including GST?

Usually not, and it is worth asking. Most of the price lists above do not say either way. Codingclave says its figures include GST where applicable; an India-wide guide from GIT Infosys says its figures are before 18% GST. Domain and hosting vendors add 18% GST at checkout. A GST-registered business can usually claim that back as input tax credit; a shop that is not registered, or is on the composition scheme, cannot.

Should I just use Shopify or Dukaan instead?

If you will sell more than a handful of products online and want to manage the store yourself, a store builder is a reasonable choice. Compare it over three years, not one month, and check the transaction fees on the plan you pick — they are separate from the monthly price.

Is ₹8,499 too cheap to be any good?

It is at the bottom of the ordinary band, not below it — the Expro and Qubinity guides both start a basic Kolkata site at ₹8,000. It is the launch price for five clients; after that the published price, ₹14,999, applies. What is included is listed above, in full, either way.

Every figure in this post comes from a published price list, cost guide or vendor pricing page, checked on 3 October 2026: webdesignerkolkata.in, Expro Lab, Qubinity, Codingclave, AS Webmarketings and Webtechnomind for Kolkata build prices; Shopify India and Dukaan for builder plans; Hostinger India and GoDaddy India for domain and hosting renewals. Prices change — check the live page before you rely on any one of them.
