My listing says "permanently closed" and I never closed it. Can that be fixed?
Usually yes, though it takes patience rather than cleverness. It normally happens because someone used "Suggest an edit" and Google accepted it, or because the listing sat unverified so long that Google assumed the business was gone.
The fix is to regain ownership of the listing, reopen it from the dashboard, and if the control is missing or the change reverts, appeal to Google support in writing with proof the business trades — GST registration, a photo of the premises, a working website. A straightforward reopen can take days. A reclaim plus appeal can take several weeks, and anyone who promises you faster is guessing.
Do I need a website for a Google listing to work?
No. A listing works on its own and is often the better first move if money is tight — it is cheaper, it is faster, and for a walk-in business it is usually where the customers actually come from.
A website helps the listing rank and gives people somewhere to land, so the two reinforce each other. But if you can only do one thing this month, do the listing.
