SEO monthly retainer cost in Kolkata (2026)

What Kolkata agencies publish per month — ₹2,999 to ₹60,000 under the same words — what each price buys in pages, links and reports, and what one shop needs.

An agency has quoted you ₹10,000 a month for SEO. Another said ₹3,000. A third said nothing under ₹25,000 is worth doing. All three used the same words — keywords, backlinks, reports — and none of them said what you would actually be paying for.

Here is what Kolkata agencies publish, lined up, with what is inside each price. Every figure is from the agency's own page, checked on 6 October 2026.

What Kolkata agencies charge per month

The short answer: a published SEO retainer in Kolkata runs from ₹2,999 to about ₹60,000 a month for a small or local business, and the same phrase — "local SEO" — is priced anywhere from ₹7,500 to ₹25,000 depending on who you ask.

Who What they publish Monthly price
InfoSky Solutions, Kolkata Price guide, April 2026; "local SEO starts from ₹7,500" ₹2,999 – ₹8,000 basic; ₹8,000 – ₹25,000 small business
Sandora Digital, Kolkata Three fixed plans with the scope listed ₹9,999 / ₹19,999 / ₹34,999
Webtechnomind, Kolkata Price guide, September 2026 ₹8,000 – ₹15,000 small business; ₹10,000 – ₹25,000 local SEO
Zth Planet, Kolkata Price guide, 2026 ₹25,000 – ₹55,000 "starter"
99Graphics Design, Kolkata Digital marketing including SEO ₹10,000 – ₹1,50,000; full service ₹40,000 – ₹1,50,000
OneCity, India-wide rate card September 2026 ₹15,000 – ₹25,000 local; ₹25,000 – ₹50,000 growth
Amit Gupta SEO, Delhi Three fixed plans ₹15,000 / ₹30,000 / ₹60,000+

Two things stand out. The floor for "a small local business" sits anywhere between ₹2,999 and ₹25,000 — an eight-fold spread for the same label. And the cheapest Delhi plan went from ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 between August and October 2026, so none of these numbers stay still.

What the price actually buys

A retainer is not a price for a result. It is a price for a quantity of work each month, and the agencies that publish their scope make that visible. Sandora Digital's three plans, for example:

Plan Keywords tracked Blog posts a month Backlinks a month Page fixes a month Reporting
₹9,999 15 2 15 4 Monthly, with a call
₹19,999 30 4 30 8 Fortnightly, with a call
₹34,999 60 8 60 All pages Weekly, with a call

Amit Gupta SEO in Delhi prices the same way, by quantity: ₹15,000 for 10 keywords, ₹30,000 for 25 keywords and "5–8 quality backlinks monthly", ₹60,000 and up for 50 or more.

Now put those two side by side. One plan includes 15 backlinks a month inside a ₹9,999 fee. Another includes 5 to 8 inside ₹30,000. Zth Planet, also in Kolkata, says a link from a real publisher costs ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 each. The arithmetic does not allow fifteen links of that kind for ₹9,999 in total. Those are directory listings, profile pages and the like — which are fine, which do a little, and which you can also do yourself in an afternoon. The word "backlink" on two price lists is not the same product, and neither price list will tell you that.

The same goes for "blog posts". Two 2,000-word articles a month, written by someone who has never stood in your shop, about keywords chosen from a tool: that is what the ₹9,999 buys. Whether it is worth ₹9,999 depends entirely on whether anyone in Kolkata searches for what they are about.

The year-one arithmetic

Monthly numbers are designed to look small. Multiply.

Monthly fee Year one Three years
₹2,999 ₹35,988 ₹1,07,964
₹9,999 ₹1,19,988 ₹3,59,964
₹15,000 ₹1,80,000 ₹5,40,000
₹25,000 ₹3,00,000 ₹9,00,000

Over three years the ₹25,000 plan is ₹9,00,000 — the price of a small car — for a shop that still has one counter. Put your own quote in and see where the line crosses:

A monthly retainer against paying once

Entry-level local SEO runs ₹8,000–₹12,000 a month across Kolkata, Delhi and Bangalore. Set it to whatever you have actually been quoted.

Retainer₹1,20,000
One-off₹6,999
12 months of retainer₹1,20,000
Paying once₹6,999
The retainer costs more by₹1,13,001

At ₹10,000 a month, the retainer passes the one-off price in month 1. Everything after that is money spent to keep something you would already have owned.

The retainer range is researched market pricing, not a straw man — see the pricing comparison on the homepage for the sources. The honest caveat: a retainer buys ongoing work, and a one-off build does not. The question worth asking is whether the ongoing work is worth what it costs you, and whether you would still own anything if you stopped.

Whether that money is well spent is a separate question from whether the price is fair. I made the case both ways in should a small shop pay a monthly retainer, or pay once?, including the three situations where a retainer is straightforwardly the right answer.

What a single shop actually needs

Google's own description of local ranking has three parts: relevance, distance and prominence. For one shop in one place, the work that moves them is finite:

  1. A complete, accurate Google Business Profile with the right primary category.
  2. The same name, address and phone number everywhere you appear online.
  3. Photos, and a steady trickle of reviews.
  4. A fast site whose page titles say what you sell and where.

That is a job with an end. Most of it is done once and then kept tidy — an hour a month, not a department. It is also the part of the list a shop owner can do personally; the Google Maps post walks through it in order.

What a retainer is genuinely for is the work that does not end: new pages every month because you compete across a whole category, links because your competitors are buying them, several locations, an online store with hundreds of products. If that is you, a ₹20,000 to ₹50,000 plan with the scope in writing is a reasonable purchase. If you are one shop, a ₹9,999 plan is mostly paying for blog posts and directory links you did not need.

The questions people ask Google

How much does SEO cost per month in India?

Across the pages above: a freelancer or consultant, ₹5,000 to ₹30,000. "Local SEO" for one location, ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 in the Kolkata guides and ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 on the India-wide rate card. Growth or multi-location work, ₹25,000 to ₹50,000. Enterprise and e-commerce, ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 and up. Packages under ₹8,000 exist — InfoSky publishes ₹2,999 — and buy a correspondingly small amount of work, much of it automated.

How much should SEO cost a month?

Whatever the listed work is worth to you, and nothing for work you do not need. Ask for the scope in writing — pages, articles, links and reports per month, which is what OneCity's own rate card tells you to ask — and ask how many hours of a person's time the fee buys. A fee that cannot be expressed in hours and deliverables is a subscription to a feeling.

Is SEO still worth it in 2026?

For a shop, yes — but mostly not in the form of a retainer. Two out of three Google searches now end without a click: the Maps listing, the AI answer and the review score are the result. Being correct and complete there is worth a great deal and costs very little. Being on page one for ten competitive keywords, which is what the retainer sells, matters far less to a shop with a counter than it does to a company selling nationally.

What is the 80/20 rule for SEO?

The old observation that most of the result comes from a small part of the work. For a local business the 20% is the four items above: a correct Google Business Profile, matching details everywhere, reviews and photos, and page titles that say what and where. Most retainers spend their hours on the other 80%.

What is a monthly retainer fee?

A fixed fee paid every month for a continuing service, whether or not any particular thing was produced that month. The test is what you still have when you stop paying. If the answer is "the same site, the same listing, the same accounts, all in your name", it was a service. If the answer is vague, it was rent. (A yearly "maintenance" fee for a website is a different thing again — that one is covered here.)

Where we stand

We do not sell a retainer. A Google listing done properly is ₹999, once, with the login in your name from the first day. A website is one published price:

The trade-off is real and I would rather say it than pretend otherwise: a one-off does not include somebody working on your account every week. If you need that, buy it — from someone who puts the scope in writing. What I would push back on is paying ₹10,000 a month for a business that needed one thing fixed once.
